How do I charge my Canon 1000D without a battery pack?

I've taken some pictures on my Canon 1000D and now want to upload them onto my computer, I have the USB cable but when I plug it in nothing is happening because it says 'Charge the battery pack'. Is there anyway I can upload these without 'Charging' the battery pack?

Kyle is right ... You need to charge your Li-ion batteries soon and only the Canon charging device is recommended. Other generic's can cause overheating and even fires.

Leaving Li-ion discharged too long will shorten their life.
