I put compact florescent bulbs in my ceiling fan and my smoke alarms began to beep randomly. Any ideas why?


The home is new construction built in 2006. The smoke alarms are electric with a battery backup. I expect the bulbs caused some sort of power changes that caused the alarms to beep. The things didn't beep before the bulbs, continued to beep after I replaced all the batteries in the alarms, continued after I reset the alarms, and stopped beeping after I replaced the compact florescents with incandescent bulbs. Very odd.

Generally it is not recommended to use CFLs in vibrating environments. Vibration can cause the electronics in the CFL to fail. There is one CFL bulb (FLE11) that is available for use in a ceiling fan. Check the package for this application.

Hot water solar collector tube work or not in UK weather?


Hot water solar collector tube work or not in UK weather?
Could you give me some advice please. I want to know about the solar collector evacuated tube. Are they strong enough? I heard that some of this tube are explode or break when it get very hot. I want to know how reliable they are. Are they work in UK weather or not or is it a waste of money, because most of the time is cloudy. If it does work how many tube require to heat 210 litres water cylinder

this is what i do for a living.

Yes evacuated tubes etc WILL work,BUT flat plat panels are just as good these days. The problem with most tube design is that they are self limiting at a relatively low temp, so in the summer they will "switch off" once they reach a certain temp, where flat plates will keep transferring the energy to your water until it reaches a programmed cut off which is quite high but safe.

There was a few cases of tubes exploding when they got too hot, not heard about that for a few years now though, problem seems to be fixed. Tubes only last (usually) 10 years, where flat plates will last 25+.

2 flat plates will be good for 210 L AND won't need replaced!

Solar Hot Water

Solar Hot Water is the H2O heated using energy from sun that is Solar Energy. As you may have noticed that the shallow water of a lake is warmer than the deep water because the sunlight directly heats the lake bottom in the shallow areas. In the same way, sun can also be used to heat water in buildings and swimming pools. The solar heating systems is generally used to heat water for home, business and industrial usage. Hot water heated using sun's energy helps in generating electricity and can be used for sanitary purposes such as showering and washing.

Solar hot water systems are storage systems that can provide up to 90% of your hot water for free. In smaller households or in cooler parts of the country solar systems may be less appropriate depending upon climatic conditions. Solar heating systems is composed of solar thermal collectors and a fluid system to move the heat from the collector. The system have tank for heat storage. Solar hot water systems use flat-plate solar collectors that are typically installed facing in south direction on a rooftop. The collectors are made up of simple glass topped insulated box containing a flat sheet metal solar absorber attached to copper pipes and painted black. To heat water using sun's energy, a collector is secured on wall facing the sun. The most common solar water heating systems are active systems. Active systems contain pumps to move the liquid between the collector and storage tank whereas, passive systems rely on gravity.

Power outage hits homes in Glenbeulah, Town of Greenbush


Dozens of homes in the Town of Greenbush lost power Monday afternoon after a winch mounted on the back of a pickup truck being used to repair a well pump got caught in some overhead lines at a home on county Highway T.
can I use my Sirius Sportster 4 car kit in the house by just buying the Home kit power cord?


In other words can you plug the home power cord into the vehicle dock? (I got an extra car kit free, and want to make it into a home kit somehow) thanks.

No you can't. The car kit takes 12 volts and the home kit is 120 volts. But you can just go to Target or any other department store in the Auto section and get a AC to DC converter. Then you just plug in the car power cord into the adapter. I have this set up in my garage and it works fine. Make sure you get one that puts out enough AMPS - at least 4 (mine puts out 6). The adapter is only $20.

Reviewing the GBC HeatSeal H210 9.5" Pouch Laminating Machine

GBC is the leading manufacturer of laminating and binding machines, and with the HeatSeal H210 Pouch Laminator, it's easy to see why they're the industry leader. The H210 is a terrific machine that's ideal for the home or small office user who's looking to laminate letters, legal documents, photos, and other items up to 8.5" wide. The machine produces professional-looking results and is easy to operate. And best of all, it's very reasonably priced, making this a fantastic choice for users who are on a budget.

GBC's H210 consistently produces flawless, bubble-free lamination. The machine makes it easy to laminate small documents (such as business cards and standard 4 x 6" photos), as well as larger items using letter (9 x 11.5") and legal size (9 x 14.5") pouches, thanks to the laminator's 9.5" throat. GBC has made this machine user-friendly by including its patented ReadyGlo technology, which turns the laminator's throat green when the machine is ready to use. It only takes five minutes for the machine to warm up, which is about average for this type of laminator.

The H210 is designed for carrier usage, which prevents adhesive from building up on the machine's rollers, thus preventing pouch jams and possible machine damage. A jam release lever is provided to help the user quickly and easily remove the carrier if it should become jammed in the laminator. This is a welcome feature and it makes the unit especially easy to operate and maintain. A variable temperature setting that allows for cold laminating is also included. The H210 also features a modern design that will complement any home or office decor, and it's small enough to fit on any desk. The machine also comes with a limited two-year warranty.

The H210 does have a couple of minor drawbacks which do not make it an excellent choice for heavy-duty users or commercial finishing applications. First, the H210 can only handle pouches that are 3mil or 5mil thick. Organizations that need to use thicker pouches will have to choose a different machine. Also, the H210's 9.5" throat is not recommended for use with long side-sealed letter laminating pouches because it's important to feed pouches into a laminator sealed side first. The H210 also can't laminate large documents, such as those measuring 11 x17" (A machine with a 12.5" or 13" throat would be needed to laminate those type of items). Most home users won't need to laminate large documents and posters. However, the size limitation is definitely something to consider before purchasing this machine. Finally, the H210 has a rather small exit tray that's barely big enough to hold a standard 8.5 x 11" document. If you are laminating more than a few sheets of paper you will most likely need to remove the items from the exit tray as you go.

While the H210 may have a few shortcomings, it's really a moot point because this is a laminator that's marketed towards users who are looking for a well-built, entry-level machine to fulfill basic laminating needs. And on that level, the H210 is a winner. This is a great machine at a great price for the basic home or office laminator, and it handles basic types of laminating projects beautifully.
