In the age of digital electronics, Memory cards are changing the way we store and transfer data. Day by day SD cards are finding increased usage in mobile phones, cameras, camcorders, GPS navigation devices and gaming devices. The compactness of SD memory card make it the ideal choice for digital component manufacturers to use SD card based storage platforms to store and transfer images, music, video and other data.

The SD memory card comes in various capacities and transfer speeds and faster transfer speeds are associated with the capacity of the SD memory. These days, cell phones which come loaded with multimedia features with ability to capture photos and videos, are selling fast than the less endowed models. Some newer computers have a card reader built into the system, or an inexpensive external card reader can be purchased. Most SD cards work on preformatted FAT or FAT 32 file system which allows the card to be accessed with just an SD reader which can be connected to any output or input. When shooting digital photographs, the performance of the memory card can be critical issue, that could have an effect on the number of shots and also on the writing quality.

This is more visible while shooting in continuous shooting mode or burst mode. To support continuous shooting at 3 fps or more the SD card should be capable of writing at high speeds, so that there is no time lost between one shot and the other. High-Capacity SD cards are equipped to handle higher data transfer rates and have speeds of 200x or higher.

For added reliability and durability, most CD memory cards have no moving parts that could wear out or break. All branded SD cards available in the market are 100-percent tested and free live technical support. There is also a new kind of SD card called the SDHC cards which are differently designed, these SDHC can be read by SDHC host devices.

Starting at 4GB, SDHC cards offer larger-volume data storage and optimized recording performance with support for FAT 32 file formats. SDHC cards use new class rating for speed that deliver a minimum data transfer rate for optimum performance with SDHC devices.
